My name is Demetri Pascoe and I’m one of the new Interns here at the Barcelona Campus of Talent Garden. I’m on my way to becoming a senior Advertising student at Temple University in Philadelphia. After almost missing my flight and a quick layover in Madrid, I finally made my much awaited arrival to this beautiful city last week. The excitement was almost too much to bear when I saw the Mediterranean Sea outside the window from the plane. Once I checked in to my room at the Bellaterra Campus at UAB, it finally hit me: “Wow, I’m actually living in Barcelona for the next two months.”
This being my first time in Europe, I know I’m going to make the most out of my time here. Exploring Barcelona thus far has been nothing short of amazing. What’s even more amazing is my Internship I’ll be completing during my time here. When I first stepped into the Talent Garden space here, I knew I landed an Internship I would really enjoy during my summer. The people, the space, and most importantly, the Chief Happiness Officer Laika, have all been great thus far. After learning more about Talent Garden and coworking spaces in general, I look forward to all of the wonderful work we’ll do this summer.
I’m a big fan of lists so I’ve decided to make a list of things that are cool about Barcelona.
Food is my first and only true love, so I need to try all of the food Barcelona has to offer. Yes the Paella was delicious, but what really blew me away was the Patatas Bravas. I’ve been trying to find more local places and avoid more of the touristy food places. The other day I was exploring the area around Gracia and had an amazing dinner that was super affordable.
Way too many cute dogs roaming around the city, but my favorite would have to be Laika here at Tag Barcelona. I have a two year old Corgi back home named Brooke who is worst behaved, lovable, and cute little dog there is.
- The Train:
So efficient! I’ve never seen a form public transportation work so well. I’ve been late so many times back home because the arrival times are never as accurate as they are here. They also smell a lot more pleasant than the ones in Philadelphia.
- La Boqueria
Did I mention how much I love food? When I stepped foot into La Boqueria off of Las Ramblas, I knew I had found the spot where I would get all of my groceries during my time here. It was so overwhelming with all of the vendors and food available. It may take some time, but I’ll make my way around to everything La Boqueria has to offer.
How could I almost forget this one? I’ve had some delicious Sangria in this week since arriving. My favorite comes from La Oveja Negra near Plaza de Catalunya. But that might just be because you can get 5 Liters of it for only 30 Euros.
- The Hatrick
One last thing before I go. Being in Plaza de Catalunya after Barcelona beat Juventus in the Champions League to win the Hatrick was nothing like I’ve ever seen before. The crowds were amazing and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to experience it.
That’s about it from me. I can’t wait for the good times that the remainder of these two months have to offer. Talk to you soon. Demetri.
