When I was kid living in California, my Spanish teacher shared pictures of her trip to Spain, and I remember very clearly the pictures of a park covered in tile mosaics. I didn’t remember the name of the park, or even the city that she said it was in – but I was amazed that an outdoor city park was designed to be a magnificent piece of art. Of course, now I know that she had shared a picture of Parque Guell, one of the many masterpieces that Gaudi designed for Barcelona.
No matter where you are in Barcelona, design is an active element to take note of and enjoy. 4 ways that Barcelona is a better designed city:
Tour Barcelona by Design
You don´t need to be wealthy to appreciate the design of the city. Many of the streets are architectural design marvels, that can be enjoyed by a wander. You might want to download Paisatge, an app from the Barcelona City Council that helps you identify unique buildings and locations – outside of the normal tourist stuff. You can also reference the BCN Design Tour and map. To get more in depth explanations with an actual tour, you might like the Street Style Tours featuring guided walks or bike tours in El Raval, El Born, Poble Nou and more.
The Barcelona Design Tour takes you inside for a look at interior design in some very unique spaces.

A coworking designed for innovation
At the Talent Garden Barcelona campus, it won’t take long to notice that it was designed with great care, actually – its usually the first thing people notice! When I first came to the TAG campus – there weren’t’ any people here yet. We didn’t have a coffee maker, microwave or refrigerator. The famous red chair had not even arrived yet! But what I could already see was a value of the organization to create an environment where people would feel good. They didn’t just design a coworking space, they created a garden for innovation. Campus officer, Andrea, has a sense for design as well. Her work with StartToCo is all about helping entrepreneurs build collaborative spaces & designed brands. She also has talented friends, and Xavier Sánchez contributed a custom (amazing!) mural for our lunch room. Every time I look at it, I notice something new and different!
Come check out our space! And meet Laika, our Chief Happiness Officer, and the core team responsible for designing great events and a great space to work.
